The European paper wasp, Polistes dominula, is one of the most common social wasps. This nest fell from my roof and I noticed it had some cocoons. A week later, I saw two wasps in the container. Now, these wasps do not have a queen and were completely lost; they were not able to fly as well. Still, they are equipped with powerful jaws and a sharp stinger. CAUTION! I handled these individuals with gloves but even then I was not fully protected. The reason I am sharing this videos is to spread the word so people can see wasps in a different way vs fearing them. These insects are beneficial and keep gardens in check. Yes, they hunt caterpillars and other insects (I saw some kill a mantis nymph last year).
