Luke discusses one of the finest examples of American stoneware that we have ever had the privilege of handling. A truly iconic example that was featured on Antiques Roadshow in 1998, it is a very large-sized Ohio stoneware water cooler, made circa 1870 by William Wilbur, a potter from a famous family of stoneware potters in the Zanesville, OH area. When this cooler would have been made, Wilbur was working in Ironton, OH, on the Ohio River across from Kentucky. A true masterwork of American stoneware of the highest level of quality, it is part of our upcoming 15th Anniversary Auction of American Stoneware & Redware Pottery, to be held July 20, 2019. http://www.crockerfarm.com
