CAMMINO DI SAN BENEDETTO 11: Subiaco - Trevi nel Lazio (22 km)

Dopo aver dormito nella foresteria del Monastero di santa Scolastica, prima della partenza facciamo una visita guidata sia di quest’ultimo, sia del Sacro Speco di Subiaco.
Per visitare il Sacro Speco è necessario fare un paio di km in più rispetto a quanto previsti dalla tappa ma è veramente imperdibile. Consiglio di non partire senza prima averlo visitato attraverso le numerose visite ad offerta libera che durano più o meno mezz'ora ed illustrano le varie cappelle, la grotta di San Benedetto e i vari affreschi fra cui l'unico raffigurante il vero volto di San Francesco, giunto a Subiaco come pellegrino nel 1223.
Una volta terminate le visite scendiamo e inizia la tappa vera e propria. Dopo poco tempo si può scegliere se visitare i laghetti di San Benedetto, uscendo dal percorso in totale di circa 1.5 km per vederlo e rientrare in traccia. Scegliamo di visitarlo e paghiamo il costo di ingresso di 3 euro. Se non è troppo affollato ne può valere la pena, arrivando fino in fondo dove c'è il laghetto con la cascata.
Al rientro nella traccia procediamo prevalentemente su strada bianca. Si cammina per lunga parte vicino al fiume Aniene,  e ci sono diversi tratti in cui si può scendere e far riposare i piedi nell'acqua, o per chi non teme il freddo fare addirittura il bagno.
Proseguiamo senza difficoltà fino alla cascata di Trevi che scelgo di visitare con un piccolo fuoritraccia, più o meno 500m. Molto bella, se avete ancora gambe fatelo.  Finita la visita alla cascata percorriamo l'ultimo tratto fra asfalto e sentieri, attraversando anche un allevamento di bellissimi cavalli.
Arriviamo a Trevi nel Lazio e dopo una breve visita raggiungiamo il bellissimo ostello in cui passeremo la notte, il Colle Mordani.  Leggermente fuori dal centro paese ma già in traccia per la tappa del giorno successivo. Consigliatissimo!

After spending the night at the guesthouse of the Santa Scolastica Monastery, before departing, we take a guided tour of both the monastery and the Sacro Speco of Subiaco.
To visit the Sacro Speco, it’s necessary to walk a couple of extra kilometers beyond the planned route, but it’s truly unmissable. I recommend not leaving without visiting it, through the numerous free tours which last about half an hour and illustrate the various chapels, the cave of Saint Benedict, and the various frescoes, including the only one depicting the true face of Saint Francis, who arrived in Subiaco as a pilgrim in 1223.
Once the visits are over, we descend, and the real stage begins. After a short time, you can choose to visit the lakes of Saint Benedict, which adds about 1.5 km to the route. We decide to visit them and pay the entrance fee of 3 euros. If it's not too crowded, it’s worth it, especially when you reach the lake with the waterfall at the end.
After returning to the main trail, we continue mostly on a white road. We walk for a long stretch next to the Aniene River, and there are several spots where you can descend and rest your feet in the water, or for those who aren't afraid of the cold, even take a dip.
We continue without difficulty until we reach the Trevi waterfall, which I decide to visit with a small detour of about 500 meters. It’s very beautiful, and if you still have the energy, I recommend doing it. After visiting the waterfall, we walk the last stretch between asphalt and trails, passing by a farm with beautiful horses.
We arrive in Trevi in Lazio, and after a brief visit, we reach the beautiful hostel where we will spend the night, Colle Mordani. It’s slightly outside the village center but already on track for the next day’s stage. Highly recommended!
