OML Embroidery LIVE In the Hoop(ITH) Sew Along: Christmas Tree Mug Rug

This Christmas Tree mug rug is a bit more complicated embroidery than the other mug rugs we have done so far! This mug rug will be a bit of a challenge for precision applique placement, folded fabric placement and precision trimming! Instead of the usual satin stitches on the outside of the applique and folded fabric quilting, i use a fancy satin stitch to bring it all together. That means that you need to place the applique properly so the satin stitches cover up the fabric. It doesn't have to be perfect, you can see that mine is a bit off and it still looks fantastic!!!

The embroidered mug rug design will fit into a 5x7 hoop.

Batting to fit into the 5 x 7 hoop.
FABRIC: 4x7 fabric in two different colors for the background.
FABRIC: smaller fabric pieces around 3x6 for the tree
FABRIC: 8x7 pieces of fabric for the back, see below

Fabric for the back: you will need 2 8x7 pieces of fabric, folded in have (the longest way) and iron - you don't have to iron these pieces, but it does make it easier to stitch them down at the end.
