Hand raising baby mice: Syringe feeding Stilgar

A typical syringe feeding session for a 6-7 day old mouse. Most people won't have these feeding supplies available if they randomly happen across a mouse. That said, if you're like me and it's a semi-annual occurrence, or your dog fancies herself to be some kind of mouse super-hero, I am using and favor the following:

Miracle Nipple Mini or close equivalent. (There are a few knock offs on the market that work acceptably well at a slightly lower price point.)

.5 cc oral medication syringe (You want an o-ring style plunger, rather than a full rubber one to avoid "skipping" and sudden splorts of formula when the plunger sticks.)

Roughly 140 degree (F) water for warming the formula in the syringe.

Q-tips or tissue corners immediately on hand for wiping formula away from the baby's nose.

Puppy formula - diluted with additional water. Which puppy formula is safest has varied over time and will vary by country, as we are using it off label, and formulations and availability change. Currently, I am using Esbilac Goat Milk Formula for puppies diluted 1 part powder to 3 parts water, which is different from package instructions. I also add 1 part coconut milk to increase the fat content to try and get a closer match to rodent milk.
