27th October, 2009 - Pa Simeon Soludo Was Kidnapped in the midst of his Son, Chukwuma Soludo Political Ambition.
On Tuesday, October 27, 2009, tragedy struck the household of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, when his father, Pa Simeon Soludo, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at his residence in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to reports, the elderly man was at home that evening when a group of heavily armed men stormed the compound around 7 p.m., seizing him and driving off before anyone could raise an alarm. The abduction came at a tense political moment—Prof. Soludo was then aspiring to become the PDP’s flagbearer in the upcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for February 2010.
The kidnappers reportedly demanded an initial ransom of ₦500 million, later reduced to ₦300 million, plunging the family and community into deep anxiety. Security agencies launched a manhunt, while appeals were made for his safe release.
After ten harrowing days in captivity, Pa Simeon Soludo was finally freed and reunited with his family on November 6, 2009. His release brought immense relief to the Soludo family and residents of Isuofia, marking the end of a traumatic episode that had drawn national attention amid growing insecurity in the region at the time.
Pa Simeon Nwankwo Soludo, the father of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, was a 92-year-old community leader and businessman who passed away on November 6, 2023.
