Today, we are going on a journey to the beautiful city of Carlisle in Cumbria. This important border city has a rich history and is home to numerous ghost stories. It played a strategic role in the conflicts between England and Scotland for centuries, but in a rather compact city centre, we have a number of haunted locations. We will begin in the magnificent Carlisle Castle; a place of conflict, murder, untimely death and mystery. But there’s more: who haunts platform 8 of Carlisle station and why? What lurks in the cellars of Dalston Hall? Who on Earth is Mr Fingernails? And why does George haunt the Crown and Mitre Hotel?

Some of the stories focus on historic events and I hope you feel that my video covers the sad side of history and personal tragedy in a respectful and honest way, without the need for sensationalising the past. Please stay tuned to the end to hear a postscript from me, Nicola, where I’ll share some extra stories, post cards and a some special menus from the past.
