Dedalus, American Refugee in Southeast Asia
I lost everything in the United States — my health, my home, my savings — due to 1) serious medical issues that 2) then resulted in medical bankruptcy (that good old American one-two punch).
But I did not want to go gentle into that good night. And promised myself that I wouldn't. So in February 2024, I fled America and came to Thailand, where my chances of survival would be greater, in all respects, than they would in America.
Now I live as a nomad in Southeast Asia. I could not return to the United States even if I wanted to. It is simply not even a remote possibility. I have no one and nothing to return to.
So I have been, and remain still, a nomad -- but not by choice, and not in some romantic sense, but in a purely visceral, survival-mode sense.
If you’ve ever wondered what survival looks like after the fall, this channel is for you.
