Early Highways: In the early 1900s, the Los Angeles region had a growing need for improved transportation infrastructure. The construction of early highways, such as the Ventura Boulevard, provided better connectivity between communities.
The Roosevelt Highway, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), played a crucial role in the early development of what would become the 101 Ventura Freeway.

The construction of what is now known as the 101 Ventura Freeway began in the late 1940s and continued throughout the 1950s. The portion of the highway that stretched from downtown Los Angeles to the Ventura County line was designated as U.S. Route 101 (US 101).
