Turboganz

Rodeling (Rodeln) is long-distance (miles) sledding. This channel is dedicated to bringing this long-standing, popular European snow sport to North America. It is also about education, how-to and myth-busting.
Most Americans view sledding as A) for children, B) a straight, short, fast ride on a cheap, uncontrollable "sled" (I call it slide and scream), C) if adults do it, they must be young elite athletes in lycra speed suits on specially iced luge tracks or re-living their childhood.
WRONG on all counts!
A Rodel is a specific type of sled ridden in the recumbent/seated position. It is tough, rugged and highly maneuverable, with steel, stainless steel or plastic running surfaces, reins and a suspended seat on a (usually) wooden frame. Parts are replaceable. Rodels are also somewhat flexible, a characteristic that separates them from the similar, inflexible Schlitten. Rodels are designed to slide on soft to hardpack snow, boilerplate crust, corn and ice.
