Susan Jane Matthews

Susan Jane Matthews has performed as organist, pianist, and choir director throughout the United States and in Europe. She delights in sharing the music of women composers, especially Fanny Hensel. Susan has been Director of Music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Burlingame, California since October 2005, and is founding director of the St. Paul’s Choir School (2007). She has led the choir in three English cathedral residencies: Gloucester (2017), Wells (2022), and Lincoln (2025). Under her direction, the choir has premiered three commissioned works and recorded three albums – Sweetly Singing in the Choir (2014), Searching for Stars (2019), Great Host (2024). She previously served as Director of Music at St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral, Boise, Idaho, and as Principal Organist of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, where she recorded two solo organ CDs: Chosen Tunes in 2004 and More Chosen Tunes in 2016. Susan also seeks to share glimpses of beauty through bird photography.
