PERPERÚNA - Polyphonic ensemble
PERPERÚNA - Polyphonic ensemble
The vocal ensemble emerged from open singing circles in the parks of Berlin during Summer 2019 and was officially founded in early 2020.
Since then, the members of Perperúna, driven together by their common passion for Greek, Balkan and Sephardi oral traditions, focus on the study, reinterpretation, and communication of the female polyphonic sound, often with the use of performative elements.
They explore the symbols, languages and dialects, myths and tales, melody and structure of songs that have been accompanying generations of people in the celebration of life and expression of love, in the working-field, in migration, in the time of war, in the mourning of death, in the praising of nature.
The voices of PERPERÚNA are:
Lorena Atrakzy (Israel), Dimitra Kandia (Greece), Angela Monaco (Italy), Saraï O’gara (Spain), Johanna Schlottke (Germany)
