Bits O' Hits

Each video is a countdown of clips—or bits—of the hit songs in the USA from a particular month between 1960 and 1989. Each song bit comes with bitfacts that you can see centered in the image of every 45-rpm record.

The video descriptions will alert you to the replacement of copy-protected songs, if any, by covers that I truly hope you will find interesting. Since countdowns are anticipatory, I won’t give away the song title or artist—just the position or rank where they occur.

About the rankings. Unlike for my books, Ranking the ‘60s and Ranking the ‘70s (with Bill Carroll), I used a simple reverse point system--no weighting--that I applied to the local Los Angeles surveys from radio stations KFWB, KRLA and KHJ for the ‘60s, to the top 30 singles in Billboard, Cash Box and Record World for the ‘70s, and to the same positions in Billboard and Cash Box for the ‘80s. Then I combined point totals from my sources to derive the final rankings.
