Lichen Dyes on Merino & Silk: Usnea, Bryoria & Tree Moss

Lichen Dye Test: Solar & Stovetop Methods 🌞🍵:
In this video, I test two methods for dyeing with wild-foraged lichens: solar dyeing on my terrace and a gentle stovetop simmer (after over boiling it😝). These ancient organisms offer a surprising range of colors when handled with care.

I used:
• Usnea – yielded golden yellow to orange
• Bryoria – soft yellow
• Pseudevernia furfuracea (tree moss lichen) – green to brown

I dye silk, mohair, and merino yarns, comparing results between solar and stovetop methods. Natural dyeing is a slow process, and lichens are some of the most fascinating sources of color in the world of fiber arts.
