President Nandi-Ndaitwah meets regional leaders on 2026 way forward - nbc

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has met with the political leadership of the Zambezi, Kavango East and West, Ohangwena, Oshana, Omusati, Oshikoto, and Kunene Regions to discuss the way forward in 2026.

The gathering took place at the President's residence at Onheleiwa in the Ohangwena Region.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah noted the importance of having such a gathering at the start of the year to deliberate on the duties and work that lie ahead.

This, she said, was the main purpose behind the event.

"It is not too far or too late to say Happy New Year to all of you. We need to work hard come 2029. Our Parliament is now paralysed. For nine months, the Parliament has been meeting; no single law has been passed, and it is done deliberately. I feel sorry when I look at our Speaker. The mission of those people is to make this government dysfunctional, and it is by blocking our laws."

The President emphasised that she wants leaders to move away from the narrative of "rich versus poor regions."

"Do something so that the resources you have can take our people out of poverty. There are people who are poor, and we should find a way to take these people out of poverty."

The meeting also observed a moment of silence in tribute to the late liberation veteran Kanana Hishoono, the late headman of Onambutu in the Eenhana Constituency.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah conferred him a State funeral and will be buried at Eenhana Shrine.

The official memorial will be held this Friday and the funeral service on Saturday.
