This is part of my personal playlist and you may want to check out my channel to enjoy it from the beginning as intended.
For the unaware, back while producing their Abacab album Genesis wrote up an entire suite of songs that included Dodo/Lurker and two other music pieces given the working titles Naminanu & Submarine. At one point the band decided to blow up what they'd already written in an effort to come up with a really different sound and this suite of music was one of those casualties. They ended up chopping the suite in half and only released Dodo/Lurker on the album. The other pieces were relegated to B-sides.
The question is in what order were these pieces of music intended to be presented? Was it was Dodo/Lurker/Submarine/Naminanu? Or Submarine/Naminanu/Dodo/Lurker? Something else?
I go with Naminanu/Dodo/Lurker/Submarine due to the sudden stop of Naminanu matching up nicely with the cold opening of Dodo, and because "Submarine" is the answer to Lurker's riddle (and why would you give the answer before the riddle?).
There was some kind of special release, a press preview I think, that suggests another arrangement but I doubt the band actually had much to do with that release.
While the transition from Naminanu to Dodo is easy to combine, the transition from Lurker to Submarine is much trickier, and yet I think I got it almost right - not perfect but close. just listen to it starting at around 11:05. I swear the drums during the transition are almost synchronized. I might have gotten it perfect with more work, but just getting it this close really was beginners luck and I worried I'd just make it worse if I played around with it.
I kind of wish they had gone with releasing the suite instead of chopping it in half, I think it would have been the highlight of the Abacab album and a staple of their live concerts.
