Exploring northern Japan, Hokkaido

After leaving Furano we made our way to a public outdoor onsen called Fukiage open-air Onsen, which was an experience and also the first time that our troops has been so high in the mountain.

Biei was the next location we parked up at the Mishinoeki then hiked our way up to the beautiful blue lake Shirogane Blue Pond, then hiked to the waterfall Shirahige Waterfall and another waterfall Shirogane Food no Taki falls on the way back. Devoured a burger from Between the bread, slept a night and then hit back on the road.

The following day Serena didn’t feel very well, the previous day she was bit by something but it looked to just be a mosquito bite. Her ankle swelled up and she didn’t sleep very well, definitely not in a good mood. We decided at the next town we were heading to book ourselves a hotel but sadly, that didn’t happened as everything was booked out or just too expensive for our budget. So we booked a love hotel and it was great. The room was very clean and massive, with great air conditioning. It does feel like most of the love hotels are actually much bigger and cheaper than actual hotel chains.

Two days video editing and relaxing watching movies was just what we both needed, eventually had to leave and make some tracks to explore. We made our way to the Northern People Tribe Museum and this was the best museum we’ve been too in Japan, it was just about Japanese northern tribes it was about all northern people. We highly suggest anyone to go there that is interested in the history.

Afterwards we made our way to the Prison Abashiri Kangoku. This was a massive prison to see how prisoners lived, were treated, what they had to do to survive and a bunch of history about the main road of Hokkaido. Another must see.

The we made some KMs to Shiretoko National park and try see some killer whales. Sadly none, but we did get to see some pretty sea birds and some dolphins feeding.
