This video goes through a change of speed ball handling with pro basketball player Manny Payton. These was just a simpIe workout working on different footworks and movements while adding in some reactive components to make it a little more game like.
With ball handling drills it's important to work certain qualities like ball control, pace, change of heights in isolation but that alone is not enough, you must add it into game context and make it as realistic as possible. Ideally we could implement some of this stuff with a real defender but we didn't have that. Instead we implemented some audio and visual cues to add complexity and reactive component.
In this workout we include a lot of movement based ball handling drills that force him to really make the ball an extension to his body, different combos moves and ways to get by the defender.
At the end of the workout we add in a reactive component to work on his ability react off different actions and then getting to the rim for a finish.
