The PM sensor is installed at the rear end of the DPF and monitors the particulate matter
PM emitted at the rear end of the DPF to detect fine DPF damage at a level that is difficult to detect with the eye.
1. Diagnostic Principles
After Engine ON monitoring is carried out under the activation conditions of PM sensor, and DPF damage is diagnosed based on current signal flowing through PM sensor.
In case of DPF damage, the amount of soot discharged in the subsequent stage due to damage increases compared to normal conditions, and the amount of soot deposited in the PM sensor increases.
Soot deposited in PM sensor acts as a conductor, and the value of current signal measured in PM sensor increases due to the increase of soot deposited.
The PM sensor performs fault determination P200300 at a current signal value above a certain reference value.
2. Explanation of related systems
The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) system prevents particulate matter PM from being released into the atmosphere and consists of a filter body, an exhaust gas temperature sensor, and a DPF differential pressure sensor. A filter body is contained in a catalyst assembly and has a honeycomb like structure capable of sifting particulate matter.
Particulate matter is deposited in DPF as exhaust gas passes through DPF. Particulate matter deposited in DPF is called soot.
If there is a lot of soot in the DPF, the Soot deposited by DPF regeneration must be burned.
The Soot deposition determining the regeneration entry is calculated by using the DPF differential pressure sensor signal or ECU. If DPF regeneration is required, proceed with DPF regeneration when the vehicle status becomes DPF regeneration mode.
To burn soot, the ECM injects additional fuel during the exhaust process and raises the exhaust gas temperature to a soot combustion temperature above 600°C. At this time, the accumulated soot is burned and only a small amount of ash remains in the DPF.
PM sensors will be used to monitor whether such DPF are damaged.

🚗Temperature sensor Control the temperature used to burn the deposited Soot during DPF regeneration through a temperature sensor mounted on the DPF front.
