Ever been in Mass and made your own background music?
This is what mine sounds like.
The Confiteor is one of the oldest penitential prayers in the Catholic Mass, dating back to the early Middle Ages. Its roots can be traced to monastic practices of public confession and humility before God. By the 11th century, the Confiteor had become a fixed part of the Roman Rite, serving as a communal acknowledgment of sin at the beginning of Mass.
Spoken together by priest and congregation, the Confiteor emphasizes personal responsibility for sin (“through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault”) while also affirming the communion of saints, calling upon the Blessed Virgin Mary, the angels, and all the faithful to pray for mercy.
Its purpose is not shame, but truth: humility before God as the doorway to grace.
"I confess to almighty God
And to you, my brothers and sisters,
That I have greatly sinned
In my thoughts and in my words,
In what I have done,
And in what I have failed to do;
Through my fault,
Through my fault,
Through my most grievous fault;
Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
All the Angels and Saints,
And you, my brothers and sisters,
To pray for me to the Lord our God."
