We continue this series of Further Ramblings of Railwaymen with stories relayed to me by Driver Jim Wattleworth and Guard Eric Hern.
Jim started his railway career as an engine cleaner at Ryde IOW moving on promotion to fireman at Guildford MPD then driver at Nine Elms MPD, Fratton MPD, Guildford MPD (where we first became acquainted in 1964).
Eric started his railway career as a Porter at Petersfield in the 1950s being promoted to Shunter and then Goods Guard at Guildford where we would have met in 1962 when I first started firing.
Both really likable characters of a much loved railway that we were once part of.
