鶴岡八幡宮 白旗神社
鶴岡八幡宮境内にある白旗神社の御祭神で、歌人としても名高い源実朝公が右大臣に任命された日にあたる10月28日に、ご遺徳を偲ぶお祭りです。実朝公は鎌倉幕府三代将軍であり、歌集『金槐和歌集』に代表されるように、歌人としても大変名高いことで知られます。鎌倉は文士の多く住むところとなり、実朝公の遺徳を偲び、昭和19年より文墨祭が始められました。当日は多くの文人が集まり、茶会などが催され、日本の風情を感じさせます。

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shirahata Shrine
This festival commemorates the late Minamoto no Sanetomo, the renowned poet and enshrined deity of Shirahata Shrine within the grounds of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, on October 28th, the day he was appointed Minister of the Right. Sanetomo was the third shogun of the Kamakura shogunate and was also known for his renowned poetry, as exemplified by his collection of poems, the Kinkai Wakashu. Kamakura became a place where many writers lived, and the Bunboku Festival was started in 1944 to commemorate Sanetomo's legacy. Many writers gather on the day, and tea ceremonies and other events are held, creating a truly Japanese atmosphere.
