Join me for the seventh and final episode of our live engineering design series! This is it—we're back in Onshape one last time to put the finishing touches on the Stinger robot redesign and officially lock in the CAD model for manufacturing.
We’ve tackled the tough engineering challenges, laid out a complex electronics ecosystem, and started to make the chassis look great. Now, it’s time for the critical final steps that transform a good design into a manufacturable, beautiful product.
This week, the focus is all on cleanup, optimization, and aesthetics. We’ll be importing the last few purchased components that are critical to the assembly, specifically to check for any final interference. Then, we’ll dive into the often-overlooked but essential task of wire routing, designing channels and anchors to make sure the physical build is clean, reliable, and easy to maintain.
Finally, we’ll move on to the satisfying part: the "design glow-up"! I'll be adding those final fillets and chamfers to soften edges, eliminate stress risers, and generally make the whole robot look professional and polished. By the end of this stream, the Stinger will be fully designed, ready for the next phase: production!
I'll continue to talk through my entire CAD design process, showing you how I approach the final validation checks, the importance of aesthetic cleanup, and why good wire management is crucial for any successful robotics project.
What we'll cover in this final stream:
Final Component Integration: Importing the last set of purchased components and confirming the full assembly fit and tolerance.
Wire Routing & Management: Designing clean, effective paths, guides, and anchor points for all the electrical wiring and cables.
Aesthetic & Functional Polishing: Adding fillets and chamfers across the chassis and components to achieve a refined, professional look and enhance structural integrity.
Design Finalization: Executing the final review and creating the necessary configurations and file structure to prepare the design for the manufacturing phase.
Whether you've been with me since Episode 1 or are just tuning in, this stream offers valuable insight into the often-skipped final steps of taking an engineering concept across the finish line.
I'll be answering your questions from the chat throughout the stream, so let's finalize this design together!
