The Kalka–Shimla Railway is one of India’s most iconic narrow-gauge mountain railways, renowned for its breathtaking views and engineering marvels. Built during the British era and opened in 1903, this UNESCO World Heritage Site stretches over 96 kilometers, connecting Kalka in Haryana with the hill station of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh.
Winding through the Shivalik hills, the route passes over more than 860 bridges and through 100+ tunnels, including the famous Barog Tunnel, one of the longest on this line. The toy train journey offers stunning panoramas of lush valleys, pine and oak forests, and snow-capped peaks in the distance.
