Smart #5 Brabus Preview | How Does It Stack Up Against The Tesla Model Y & Zeekr 7X

We really wanted to preview the Smart #5 Summit but alas it was not meant to be. However, the 2 variants on display - the Smart #5 Brabus and Smart #5 Premium - did not disappoint. The Pro variant was not on display at the time.

Both variants on display are basically the same externally accept for the available colours, rims, calliper colours and Brabus badging. If you want a vehicle that looks like no other, you've come to the right place. Both are unique in design with oblong shapes all over the place, internally too. Both enjoy excellent sound proofing thanks to double layer windows and over 50 layers of soundproof materials throughout the car. Again, more details in the video.

The frunk is bigger in the Premium at 72 litres than in the Brabus (42 litres) because the former is a single motor SUV and the motor is at the back. Boot space is generous at 630 litres with seats up and 1530 litres with rear seats down. The Tesla Model Y still leads in this category. Details in the video.

Once inside, you'll notice that the materials are different. The Premium is upholstered in Nappa leather while the Brabus gets faux leather called Dinamica microfibre. Both are very comfortable.

Both cars use 800 V architecture with a 100 kWh MNC battery on board. AC charging is at 22 kW and DC is at 400 kW. You read that right. The Brabus variant does the century sprint in 3.8 seconds, the same as the Zeekr 7X, its twin as both are under the Geely umbrella. In terms of range, the Brabus claims to be able to go 540 km while the Premium can go 50 km more. Impressive.

The sound system is simply fantastic. Sennheiser did a really good job here. All 20 speakers, 2000 W, AMBEO 3D audio (7.1.4 layout) and Dolby Atmos support makes the Smart #5 practically a concert/cinema on wheels. And thanks to its dual 13-inch AMOLED 2.5K infotainment touch screen, you can enjoy movies as you escape the zombie apocalypse in comfort and luxurious bliss.

In terms of safety, its got 7 airbags and ADAS Level 2+. Its got more cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors than some small armies.

There are no plans to sell the Smart #5 in North America but it's on sale in Germany with other countries in Europe being added to the list soon. Prices (approximates) are as follows:

In summary, this one of the most luxurious off-road ready EVs we've been in. So much so that it feels almost too nice to get any mud on.
