Trains? It is no doubt they have their fans. Theme parks? Is is no doubt they have their fans. Trains and theme parks together? That is a historical moment. Tweetsie Railroad inspired a strand of American culture that established the Americana tourist culture of the American South and Appalachians. Tweetsie Railroad is a theme park that grew out of a historical railroad: East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad. The ET&WNC was the first major links of infrastructure into the remote Blue Ridge Mountains or the "Lost Province". The "Tweetsie" line then gained esteem and popularity in the region for being a useful route in an equally treacherous and scenic region. A narrow gauge railroad built over fifty years through and over mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina. After decades of service, the ET&WNC's engines would inspire a theme park: Tweetsie Railroad. The project of developer Grover Robbins Jr. to develop a tourism infrastructure in the lesser known regions of the American South. Its two trains would reach fame and acclaim: The Tweetsie No. 12 and the Yukon Queen.

Tweetsie then inspired both a fandom and competitors. There's theme park culture, but Tweetsie Railroad established a unique blend of TV Western and Railroad enthusiasm. There were sibling and rival parks, both successful and failures, that were established: Rebel Railroad, Rim Rock Railroad, Land of Oz, and Ghost Town In The Sky. The theme parks of the area all have ties to Tweetsie's historical roots. These roots too were tied up with regional railfan culture that, today, grew to join with Internet railroad culture. Tweetsie Railroad is a proper example of an idea that has existed through nearly every period of American culture. There have been oddities, failures, successes, and perhaps things nobody remembers or wants to remember. Mountains, picnics, singing cowboys, abandoned theme parks, and ski lift malfunctions all have a place in Tweetsie's cornball influence. This is not the history of theme parks but what happens when one little train gets popular.

So we should probably learn why they call it "Tweetsie" first, huh?
