Previously I had archived Super Mario Galaxy 1 on the Switch since it was part of the Super Mario 3D All Stars game. Recently it was revealed that both Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 would now also be coming to the Switch and I was so excited as I could finally experience the sequel to Galaxy for the first time.
They even had a free upgrade for the Switch 2 to have it run at 4K and a higher framerate and it was absolutely lovely to return to the setting of Galaxy. This game introduces many new mechanics while also evolving on some older ones like familiar power-ups including the bee costume or the bouncy spring. The biggest addition is Yoshi and this gives you all new power ups and gameplay mechanics. There is so much variety in each level and the pacing is always high as you keep going from little planet to planet.
Instead of a hub world, you now move along a map in the same sense that you did with Mario Bros 3 or Super Mario World. There is a lot of replay value as many galaxies offer multiple stars and secrets to find.
I am very happy that gamers all over the world can experience these fantastic games now on a modern system. Hopefully we will see more classics come to the Switch in the future!
