London bus route 129 has now been changed. The route previously ran between North Greenwich and Lewisham Shopping Centre. It has now been extended to Gallions Reach, Great Eastern Quay.
The 129 is one of three bus routes to use the new Silvertown Tunnel.
The 129 now serves many places north of the River Thames, Including West Silvertown Station, Mill Road, Pontoon Dock Station, Thames Barrier, Connaught Bridge, London City Airport, Connaught Bridge, Jake Russell Walk, Jasper Road, Fulmer Road, Beckton District Park, Dove Approach, Swallow Street, Kingsford Way, Beckton Station, Covelees Wall, Horse Leaze, Gallions Reach Roundabout, Gallions Reach Station and Magellan Boulevard.
Route 129's frequency has also been increased. Instead of running every 11 to 15 minutes on weekdays, And every 15 to 20 minutes on weekends, The route now runs every 7 to 15 minutes.
The ADL Enviro400s that were used on the 129 until today have been replaced. Brand new BYD eBus BD11s have been introduced. These are the new allocation of the route. Route 129's allocation has transferred from New Cross (NX) garage, To Henley Road (DS) garage, north of the Thames. Its peak vehicle requirement has also increased. The route now uses 22 buses instead of 7.
As the diesel or hybrid TfL buses are banned from the Silvertown Tunnel, The 129 will not see a single non-electric stray.
Before the change, the 129 served North Greenwich Bus Station, Oval Square, Millennium Village South, Millennium Leisure Park West, Millennium Leisure Park East, Kemsing Road, Marlton Street, Calvert Road, Vanbrugh Hill, Tyler Street, Trafalgar Road, Trafalgar Estate, National Maritime Museum, Greenwich Town Centre, Greenwich High Road, Greenwich Station, Ashburnham Grove, Greenwich South Street, Sparta Street, Morden Hill, Blackheath Rise, Lewisham Station and Molesworth Street.
The 129 commenced operation in June 2006, The route's purpose was to create a direct link from North Greenwich to East Greenwich.
The 129 was initially run by Travel London from Walworth (WL) garage. The route used Plaxton Pointers. In November 2007, new Wright Electrocities were introduced.
In May 2009, Travel London was sold to Abellio London.
The 129 passed to Go-Ahead London in June 2011. The route used MCV Evolutions.
Double decker Wright Eclipse Gemini 1s were introduced in June 2014. In 2016, they were replaced by Gemini 2s. In July 2017, the allocation was transferred to Morden Wharf (MG) garage.
The 129 was extended from to Lewisham replacing route 180 in 2022.
The allocation was transferred back to New Cross (NX) garage in February 2023.
ADL Enviro400s were introduced in Autumn 2023.
