初めての投稿となる今回は、火星探査ローバーに搭載されている技術の一つであるステアリングシステムについて、その制御システムを開発するソフトウェアチームに密着しました。
ステアリングシステムは、ローバーの運動性能に不可欠であり、地形対応能力や操縦精度に直結する重要なコンポーネントです。技術的な課題を克服し、最適化を図るまでの試行錯誤や、走行テストの様子をご紹介します。

“INSIDE ARES” offers a behind-the-scenes look at the activities of ARES Project, Japan’s first student-led Mars exploration rover development team.

In this first episode, we focus on one of the core technologies of the Mars exploration rover: the steering system. We follow the software development team as they work on the control system for the rover’s steering. The steering system is essential for the rover’s mobility, directly affecting its terrain adaptability and manoeuvring precision. We’ll showcase the challenges faced, the trial-and-error approach to optimisation, and the footage from test drives.
