In this practice session we are going to play together a melodic progression based on thirds and fourths intervals inside of the PENTATONIC scales, in each one of the 5 boxes. We are going to work in the key of G major / E minor.
(PDFs of the patterns are available in my PATREON PAGE: / lesson-20b-3rds-80654231 .
We did a similar exercise in the past lesson 20, on the complete scales of G major.
(You can review it here: Lesson 20 3rd intervals progression • Lesson 20 - 3rd INTERVALS progression (in ... ).
The melodic progression can be described with this number sequence: 1 - 3, 2 - 4, 3 - 5 etc... and inside of the pentatonic this progression gives one major third interval and four fourth intervals. For example in this key we will have: G - B (major third), A - D (perfect fourth), B - E (perfect fourth), D - G (perfect fourth), E - A (perfect fourth) .
It's very important to pay close attention to the fingerings! You can watch the ones I'm using, or choose your own. We are going to play the exercise at different levels: - first of all, you might need to figure it out by yourself, stopping the video, and with no tempo; then together, with a slow metronome, then on a faster one, and finally on a Bossa Nova drum loop.
Once you have trained successfully on this exercise, you could go back to the interactive backing track on lesson 26, or go to the next one coming out on the blues in E minor (coming out soon) and improvise on them, this time using only the pentatonic scales. These are the links:

Blues in E minor (coming out soon!)
