0:00 This design, installed very much like a mitered border, will hopefully capture a little of the character of the antique inspiration frames.
0:29 Mark a heavy chalk line around the image area. Cut 4 border strips and mark them with 1/4-inch seamlines using water-soluble ink.
1:11 Pin them carefully matching the blue lines to the inside of the chalk lines.
2:08 Attach the strips from corner to corner with a walking foot, make any adjustments, and finger crease back the strips.
3:23 Mark and stitch the miters.
4:54 Trim the miters and landscape edges, then remove any stray marker.
5:27 I used one of the inspiration frames to draw my outline, and then I quilt using a wood grain pattern, working from the center out, to manage my layers and avoid puckers. The trick is to make the corners appear mitered.
6:38 Two colors of variegated thread help create the wood grain.
7:24 Stitching around the edge a few times, going back and forth, helps stabilize it. Trim the edge. The frame/border will be turned and then hand stitched on the back. It will serve as the binding.
