This video started off as a response to a comment that when we forward bend we "brace the core, we don't tuck".
My intent was to talk about the importance of anchoring one end of the muscles that we are trying to control. So rather than bracing the core, anchor the hip bone or the ribcage. Then the core muscles like the obliques, rectus abdominis and the spinal erectors can be used to stabilize (or control) the ribcage relative to the hip bone(s) or they can be used to stabilize the hip bones relative to the ribcage.
As per usual, I got a bit side-tracked. I ended up talking about the idea of not simply listening to whatever you hear (and that includes what you hear from me). And so what this video evolved into was a talk on "how do you figure out what advice to follow with respect to using the body." One simple idea is that you learn to feel and control your own body so that you can carry out your own experiments. And so from there the questions can be: how do you learn to feel your body and how to you test ideas out?
