Westport River From Above | A Virtual Tour with WRWA

Take a virtual journey along the Westport River in Westport, MA, where we explore its natural beauty, diverse ecology, and the role of stewardship in preserving this vital watershed.

Created in collaboration with the Westport River Watershed Alliance (WRWA), the video highlights the river’s connection to local agriculture, thriving oyster beds, and abundant wildlife. Moving forward, we also consider the impact of man-made landmarks—bridges, docks, and working waterfronts—and the importance of balancing human activity with the health of the river.

In addition, we explore the salt marsh islands and coastal plant life that naturally filter salt water and remove excess nitrogen, playing a crucial role in maintaining water quality. Oysters, too, contribute significantly to this process, improving the overall health of the ecosystem.

Furthermore, we turn our attention to wildlife conservation, highlighting the osprey, which was once nearly endangered due to pesticide use and habitat loss. Thanks to dedicated local conservation efforts, the osprey has made a strong comeback along the Westport River, demonstrating the power of stewardship and community action in protecting wildlife.
