This video shows how Ansys Workbench Additive can be used to simulate the Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) metal additive manufacturing process. This process is simulated using a one-way coupled Transient Thermal into Static Structural analysis along with element birth and death technology to activate layers of elements from the baseplate to the top of the part. This analysis can be used to predict temperatures, process induced distortions, residual stresses, plasticity, build plate distortion, and blade crash.
