Continuing our road-trip in the river series ” We kick off at the historic Lake Boga Flying Museum. The lake’s wartime history added a layer of intrigue, with remnants of its role as a Catalina flying boat repair base tucked into the shoreline. A quick visit to the museum gave us a glimpse into the ingenuity and resilience that once filled these waters with aircraft and ambition.
From there, we headed toward Paradise Beach on the Murray River—a name that doesn’t overpromise. The campsite was tucked beneath tall gums, with soft sand underfoot and the river just steps away. Setting up felt effortless, and Dougie was in his element, sniffing trails and watching the water with tail-wagging approval. Campfires crackled in the evening, and the stars came out in full force, mirrored in the slow-moving river. It was peaceful, but never dull—kayaks glided past, birds called from the treetops, and the occasional splash hinted at fish beneath the surface.
Between Lake Boga’s quiet legacy and the laid-back rhythm of Paradise Beach, it was a trip that blended history, nature, and the kind of camping that leaves you sun-kissed and satisfied.
We cruised through Kerang, where wecast a line into the Loddon River, hoping for a bite and soaking in the quiet charm of the region. Further along, we crossed paths with the historical Barmah Punt, as we stop for a break by the river.

We’re part-time nomads cruising around in our vintage Windsor caravan, called Kevin. We are chasing history, nature and discovering new places across Australia.
We travel with Dougie, our Aussie Terrier, who joins us on walks and is always happy to receive a friendly pat along the way.
From free campsites to showgrounds and caravan parks, we offer practical tips on which places are dog-friendly and which ones might be a bit tricky if you're travelling with a furry companion.
