This tune was inspired by the music of some of the more modern jazz big band composers like Jim McNeely and Bob Brookmeyer. These are composers whose music can be very dense, but is really logically constructed and ends up being REALLY cool to listen to when played right. Admittedly, I began writing this tune with the thought of "I'm going to write something hard just because," however this quickly evolved into an incredibly musically rewarding project to work on, even beyond its complexity!

I'm so happy with the music on "Songs from In Between." What started as "I'm going to write and publish some tunes just to expand my portfolio" became "I'm going to make an album that will be a memory of how I wrote music before I went to grad school." I'm grateful to everyone who played on this album, and to everyone who is giving it a listen despite finding me as an arranger/cover artist before anything else.
