Welcome to Hikeaholics. Chay, Nutty Nanny and Lee on today’s walk.
Today we are off to the village of Blickling to complete a 6.5 mile circular walk. We skirt the Blickling Estate starting and finishing in Bucks Common car park, Blickling Road, Blickling, Aylsham, Norwich, Norfolk NR11 6PA.
We walk away from the car park entrance and into the woods. We follow the footpath to the left and enter into Bunker’s Hill Plantation. We continue along this footpath until it veers to the right. Once around this veer we take an immediate left, leaving the main footpath. We walk through the woods to come across a bridleway that runs parallel to the woods and fields. Here, we turn right and continue along the bridleway until we come to a road ( The Common). We take a left here and continue along the road until just before we get to New Road. There is a wooden gate on the right that we go through and follow the grass track straight in front. We cross a small narrow wooden bridge crossing the River Bure. Next, we take the wooden bridge to the right and follow the treeline / river on our right. After a short while we take the small wooden bridge on our left side ( look for the small handrails ). We then cross a 2nd small wooden bridge and then onto a 3rd similar bridge. After crossing the 3rd we turn left and cross another small wooden bridge. We then veer to the right and go over a style and onto another wooden bridge. Once over the bridge and into a field we follow the hedgerow on our left side until we arrive at some farmhouses and buildings.
We walk between the buildings at White House Farm and turn right at the T-Junction onto a gravel track. We follow the track until we come to a road ( The Common ). The road goes left, but we turn right onto a dirt track. Before the gate in front of us, we turn left and follow the footpath which leads to a bridge back across the River Bure. We follow the river path and come out onto a road. Here, we turn turn left onto Carr’s Lane. We continue along the road until we turn right off Carr’s Lane at a crossroads with dirt track left and right, which is part of John’s Water Walk in the area. We walk along track with the hedgerow on our left side. As we enter the woods we continue straight rather than turning right. After continuing along we come to a T-Junction (with a bench ). Here, we turn left and follow the track down to The Lake on the Blickling Estate. Once at the lake ( more benches ) we turn right and walk by the lake with it on our left side. We follow the lake until the footpath veers to the right ( another bench ) as we approach Blickling Hall. Continuing along the track we head towards the Cafe and Pub on the Estate. As we get to Hall Lane we turn left and walk in front of the Buck Arms. We continue along and walk in front of the entrance to Blickling Hall. After a quick view, we head towards St. Andrew’s Church. We go through the church gate and encounter some orange arrow signs ( Brady’s Walk ) which we will follow for a while. We follow the church path and exit out onto Blickling Road, which we cross and head down Silvergate Lane.
After a short while we take a right off Silvergate Lane following the orange signs into the woods. We follow the footpath until we go through a gate and then another gate which is straight ahead. We follow the path which then turns to the right towards a gate where we enter a field. We walk across this field towards another gate, which we go through and onto a little wooden bridge. We keep following the orange arrows and encounter White Topp Lane ( tarmac) which we turn right onto and follow it for a short while. We turn left off White Topp Lane down a dirt track, still following the orange arrows. We then walk by Hercules Wood before we come out onto and cross Blickling Road. Once over the road, we go around the gate in front and come to a T-Junction. Here, we turn left and enter into Long Plantation. We follow this path over a crossroad still following the orange arrows. We then come across The Tower on our right side but continue along the track. Soon after the tower, the orange arrows lead to the right, but here, we continue straight into Buck’s Common. We follow the footpath along and come back to the car park on our left side.
