昭和11年12月16日、当時の文部省から『天然記念物及び名勝』に指定された吹割の滝は、高さ7メートル、幅30メートルにおよび、ごうごうと落下・飛散する姿から東洋のナイアガラとも呼ばれています。『吹割の滝』の名は、凝灰岩・花崗岩の川床上を流れる片品川の清流が、岩質の軟らかい部分を浸蝕し多数の割れ目を生じ、あたかも巨大な岩が吹き割れたように見えるところから生まれました。
周辺には遊歩道も整備されており、『鱒飛の滝』の壮絶な景観や『獅子岩』と呼ばれる岩壁群、『般若岩』などの奇景、歴史ある『浮島観音堂』、『浮島橋』や『観瀑台』からの眺めなど、独特の渓谷美に彩られた多くの見所が存在します。
Fukiwari Falls, designated as a "Natural Monument and Place of Scenic Beauty" by the then Ministry of Education on December 16, 1936, is 7 meters high and 30 meters wide, and is also called the Niagara of the Orient because of the way it falls and splashes down with a roaring sound. The name "Fukiwari Falls" comes from the fact that the clear stream of the Katashinagawa River flowing over the tuff and granite riverbed erodes the soft rock and creates numerous cracks, making it look as if a huge rock has blown apart.
There is a promenade in the surrounding area, and there are many attractions colored by the unique beauty of the valley, such as the spectacular view of "Masubi Falls," "Lion Rock," "Hannya Rock," the historic "Ukishima Kannondou" and the views from "Ukishima Bridge" and "Kanpakudai.
