In September 2001, Seyoum Tsehaye was imprisoned without a trial in Eritrea. He was a famous photographer and journalist who was considered a threat towards a government that was turning more and more authoritarian by the minute. He was imprisoned alongside several other journalists and politicians the same week the free press was shut down. This week has been referred to as the week Eritrea officially became a dictatorship.
On the 19 year anniversary of his arrest, Seyoum's brave daughters Abie and Beilula spoke to Aaron Berhane at Setit Media. Aaron was the founder and editor-in-chief of independent Eritrea's first newspaper. He was one of the few high-profile journalists who was not imprisoned in 2001, currently living in exile in Canada.
Thank you to One Day Seyoum member Azahel Miranda who translated the interview from Tigrinya to English.
