Advice For Beginning Amateur Astronomers: Getting Sharp Focus

This video is intended for inexperienced, beginning amateur astronomers and discusses the importance of sharp focus when viewing or imaging astronomical objects.
The need to be patient and do the right things the right way is emphasized. The importance of sharp focus is discussed, particularly with regard to astrophotography.
Possible causes of difficulty in obtaining sharp focus are discussed, including seeing conditions, unstable telescope systems, cheap focusers, bad telescope design, etc.
The use of bright stars in obtaining sharp focus is presented, and the use of Bahtanov Masks is discussed, including a definition of Bahtanov Masks and how they may be used to obtained more precise focus by utilizing the diffraction pattern produced by such masks. Illustrations are used to show the proper use of these masks in helping achieve precise focus.
The need to make periodic checks during viewing/imagining sessions to ensure good focus is discussed, as is some information regarding parfocal eyepieces.
