Lazy eye, medically known as Amblyopia, is an eye condition characterized by unclear vision in one eye.

Newborns require equal stimulation for vision development, but if one eye has significantly poorer vision (e.g., Left eye: 0, Right eye: 5), the brain may suppress the unclear image. This is the primary cause of the lazy eye.

It may also happen due to factors like refractive errors, strabismus, or ptosis. Early detection through vision screening programs, especially by age 3 or earlier for premature babies, is crucial.

Symptoms include frequent blinking, moving closer to the TV, and rubbing.

Among treatment options, there are eye drops, use of specs, patching therapy, and vision therapies are useful.

Nevertheless, the effectiveness reduces after age 7 due to reduced neuroplasticity. Dr. Sardana advises on early intervention time and again.
