Opening in 1986, The Last Stand would be Funland's 7th roller coaster, and would be one of two Stand-Up coasters to open on the west coast in 1986. (The other being Shockwave @ Six Flags Magic Mountain). The Last Stand would give brave riders at Funland the chance to experience a 360 degree vertical loop while in the standing position, a thrill that many parks across the world would try to capitalize on in the 1980s.
Japanese manufacturer TOGO would be the first company to build a stand-up coaster train that was added to an existing ride in 1982. Momonga Standing and Loop Coaster would be the first coaster to deliver a Stand-Up ride. Arrow Development follow suit in 1983 by adding their own Stand-Up trains to one of their standard Arrow corkscrew models at Worlds of Fun. The first purpose built Stand-Up coaster would open in 1984 at Kings Island, and would be one of 3 standard Astro Comet layouts that The Last Stand is modeled after.
