The Grand Seiko 61GS was the second automatic Grand Seiko, released towards the end of the 1960's in a classic grammar-of-design case. The first models, the 6145-8000 and 6146-8000, first appeared in the autumn of 1967 and were fitted with a high-beat 25 jewel automatic movement running at 36000 bph and featuring date or day/date complications, quickset date, hacking seconds and hand-winding.
The watch described here is an example of the cross-hair dial 6146-8000, this one dating from April 1969. The video discusses some of the challenges involved in servicing these watches, presents a review of the finished watch and compares it to the first generation automatic Grand Seiko, the 6245-9001.
