Investment and Refractory Dies Materials

In this lecture, we will explore the concept of casting in dentistry and understand how the casting process is applied to fabricate cast restorations. A key focus will be on the role of investment materials in dental casting—what they are, their purpose, and the process of investing.
We will cover the basic concepts of investment materials, their role in the casting procedure, and the ideal requirements of these materials. The lecture also provides a detailed discussion on the three main types of investment materials used in dentistry:
Gypsum-bonded investment materials
Silica-bonded investment materials
Phosphate-bonded investment materials
For each type, we will study their composition, mode of supply, setting reaction, properties, and applications.
In addition, we will also discuss refractory die materials—their definition, relationship with investment materials, as well as their functions and applications.
