🇬🇧 After the Second World War, hundreds of American artists chose to settle in Paris. In 2024, New York University's Grey Art Museum devoted an exhibition to these artists entitled ‘Americans in Paris: Artists Working in Postwar France, 1946-1962’. Showcasing some 130 paintings, sculptures, photographs, films, textiles and works on paper by nearly 70 artists, it offered a fresh perspective on a creative ferment that is all too often overshadowed by the contemporary rise of the New York art scene.
Lynn Gumpert, co-curator of the exhibition, will be sharing the research methods she and Debra Bricker Balken, lead curator, used for the exhibition.  

🇫🇷 Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, des centaines d'artistes américains choisissent de s'installer à Paris. En 2024, le Grey Art Museum de l'Université de New York consacrait à ces artistes une exposition intitulée « Americans in Paris: Artists Working in Postwar France, 1946-1962 ». En présentant quelques 130 peintures, sculptures, photographies, films, textiles et œuvres sur papier de près de 70 artistes, elle offrait une perspective nouvelle sur un bouillonnement créatif trop souvent éclipsé par l'ascension contemporaine de la scène artistique new-yorkaise.

Lynn Gumpert, co-commissaire de l'exposition, partagera à l’occasion de cette conference, les méthodes de recherche qu'elle et Debra Bricker Balken, commissaire principale, ont mis en oeuvre à cette occasion.
