This is my second visit to Coimbatore. Within a year. I check into the Isha Yoga Center located at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains to ring in the New Year. Not for spiritual enlightenment, but for some rejuvenation and relaxation after an excruciatingly busy year. Every pillar and nook of the retreat is imbued with the aura of its founder and visionary, Sadhguru. And although I am no spiritual seeker, I readily agree that this destination spanning over 200 acres is any wellness traveller’s haven. The nourishing sattvic rainbow food served two times a day (10 am and 7 pm) add to the overall experience. Swami Nadija, who oversees one of the programmes at Isha, puts it aptly, “When you travel the world, you are going for experiences. Here [at the Isha Yoga Centre], the experiences are 10 times more and in fast forward—intense and very fulfilling.”
The Isha Yoga Center situated at the foothills of Velliangiri, on the outskirts of Coimbatore, is the headquarters for Isha Foundation. Isha is a sacred space for self-transformation, where you can come dedicate time towards your inner growth. The center offers all four major paths of yoga – kriya (energy), gnana (knowledge), karma (action), and bhakti (devotion), drawing people from all over the world.
The Center is dedicated to fostering inner transformation and creating an established state of wellbeing in individuals. The large residential facility houses an active international community of brahmacharis, full-time volunteers and visitors. Isha Yoga Center provides a supportive environment for you to shift to healthier lifestyles, seek a higher level of self-fulfillment and realize your full potential.
The Isha Yoga Center is situated 30 kilometers (20 miles) west of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore, a major industrial city in southern India, is well connected by air, rail and road. Major airlines operate regular flights to Coimbatore from Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Train services are available from all major cities in India.
There are direct buses between Coimbatore and the Isha Yoga Center (view the timetable).
Taxis can be booked from the airport as well as the railway station. Alternatively, you can also book a taxi through the Isha Travel Desk – visit vahanam.co/cab or email [email protected] for assistance.
