Step back in time and explore the remote back side of Guadalupe River State Park in the Texas Hill Country! In this adventure, we hike the Bauer Unit Trail — a 1.3-mile journey down to the creek and back — uncovering fascinating history, native plants, and Texas wildlife along the way.
We visit the historic Bauer House, peek through an old window, explore a weathered shed, and find a vintage water tank that tells stories of ranch life from long ago. Along the trail, we pass through open prairie and old farmland, encounter prickly pear cactus, sprawling cactus patches, and other native Texas plants that once sustained the people who lived here.
The hike takes us down to the serene Guadalupe River, where we take in peaceful Hill Country views before heading back. Along the way, we meet local wildlife — including an armadillo, a curious lizard, and striking American bumblebees.
This video blends Texas history, nature, and storytelling, giving you a deeper appreciation of what makes the Bauer Unit so special. Whether you’re planning a trip, love hiking, or just want to experience the beauty of the Texas Hill Country, this trail is a must-see.
