Brushless Quadruped Robot – First Steps

This video depicts the first steps of a quadruped robot that is driven by eight brushless motors without any reduction. The robot is agile and can perform a wide range of moves that are challenging with traditional hobby servo motors.

Four ODrives with custom firmware are used for motor control, and a single Teensy 3.5 as a gait generator. Most parts are 3d printed or laser cut.

This is a relatively inexpensive build (compared to commercial brushless robots) with parts cost summing up to around $1000.
