The very unusual sight of a steam locomotive running tender first on an operational passenger working, GWR ‘Castle’ no 5043 ‘Earl Of Mount Edgcumbe’ is working the 1448 Vintage Trains ‘Shakespeare Express’ from Birmingham Snow Hill to Stratford, also being ably assisted by class 37 no 37240 which has the power on. The ensemble is seen passing The Lakes station on the North Warwickshire line on 27th July 2025.
Some time afterwards, heading south west, ‘Earl of Mount Edgcumbe’ has ran round in Stratford and is now ‘facing the front’ as it blasts through Wood End tunnel with the returning ‘Shakespeare Express’ to Worcester on 27th July 2025. 5043 is working 1Z68 the 1648 from Stratford to Worcester as it heads along the North Warwickshire line at Wood End, this time with class 37 no 37240 on the rear.
