And so it begins! The Australian Native food forest is about to be planted. I want to celebrate and showcase the Australian bush foods that grow native around parts of NSW and some from other parts of Australia. It doesn't look like much yet, but over the next few weeks see how the forest will change from native forest trees to incredible edible varieties. Bush foods are the ultimate super food so lets learn about them together. Today I am preparing the food forest and mapping it out. I hope this next series serves as a Guide for anyone thinking of growing native Australian edible plants in a food forest or in their garden. Think of it as a temperate food forests for beginners. A helpful cheat sheet for starting a permaculture food forest with Australian natives.

For those that are new we're homesteading in Australia and have been homesteading here for a year. This is only our temporary homestead, so we hope to take you along on our journey of learning trialing and growing a homestead. This native Australian food forest is our next project to celebrate reaching our 500 subscriber goal. We want to create a food forest with Australian native edibles as living in Australia we have a lot of harsh weather, droughts, and sometimes fires. Planting native edible plants makes sense as they will grow well, are well adapted and are high in nutrients, minerals and packed with flavour like you have never had before.We are starting a food forest Australia because there is not enough information out there to make us feel comfortable having a go at using all these incredible ingredients in our own backyards. Australian bush tucker is the way forward here in our temperate, but erratic Australian climate. It is my hope that you will experiment with some Australian native edibles in your garden or even just trial using some new ingredients in your cooking derived from Australian native edible plants.
